The International Cricket Council (ICC) have scheduled their annual meeting in South Africa’s city Durban between July 10-13, according to sources.
Important issues like the annual report and future plans will be discussed in the board and executive meetings.
The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to take place in West Indies and United States (US), will be discussed in the meeting. The ICC will look at the infrastructure for the World Cup in the US and all the matches will be scheduled depending on that.
It must be noted that it will be the first time a major ICC event will be held in the US.
Asia Cup 2023, which will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka after India accepted Pakistan’s hybrid model, will also be a topic of discussion among the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members.
After a lot of hiccups, the hybrid model was finally approved by the ACC. According to the approved hybrid model, first four matches will be played in Pakistan before the event moves to Sri Lanka where nine matches, including the final, will take place. The tournament will be played from August 31 to September 17.
Another topic that will be discussed in the meeting is the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which will be held in Pakistan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) representative will meet other countries’ representatives on the sidelines of the ICC meeting.
The acting chairman of PCB Ahmed Shahzad Farooq Rana will represent Pakistan at the ICC meeting.
The acting chairman will represent Pakistan because the PCB couldn’t elect their permanent chairman as Balochistan High Court delayed the elections for the PCB chairman, which were initially scheduled to take place on June 27.
The petition was filed by the former member of the PCB management committee Gul Mohammad Kakar in a bid to challenge the elections for the chairman of PCB.
The petitioners urged the court to stop the elections of the chairman and suspend the Board of Governors (BoG) until it gives a verdict on their petitions.
It was also contended in the petition that the BoG was established against the nominations of the ex-management committee and the meeting between the BoG and the election of cricket board's chairman would be illegal as well.
